Groundbreaking ceremony for new logistics center in Aclens
Galliker has been operating a branch at the Aclens site in western Switzerland since 2007. The transport and logistics company is now building a second logistics center for the healthcare and food sectors in the Vaudois municipality. In future, up to 17,400 pallets can be stored in an area of around 18,000 square meters. As everywhere else at Galliker, sustainability is a top priority.
On July 13, 2023, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new logistics center took place in Aclens. For years, the canton of Vaud has been a strategically important region for the familyowned company based in Altishofen LU. A second logistics center is being built directly next to the existing building on an area of 10,000 square meters. It will be 92 meters long and 54 meters wide and will have a total of four floors, including the basement and first floor. According to current plans, the new building will be ready for occupancy in January 2026.
Healthcare & Food Logistics
The building is primarily used to store healthcare and food products. On behalf of customers, Galliker can take over the entire warehouse management, including picking and packing, using the latest storage and logistics technologies. The entire building, with a usable area of 18,000 square meters, maintains a constant temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and can accommodate up to 17,400 pallets.
"At the same time, a showroom for new and used cars will be created in the new building for customers in the Car Logistics division to hand over vehicles to corporate and private customers in the region of western Switzerland," says COO & VRP Rolf Galliker. In addition, state-of-the-art office and training space as well as social rooms for Galliker employees will be created. The building will be constructed directly next to the existing Logistics Center 1. "Thanks to our farsightedness, we acquired an optimal site with sufficient space here a few years ago, which today gives us the opportunity to expand our activities and our range of services," says CEO Peter Galliker.
Large photovoltaic system
Sustainability is a high priority: with "Green Logistics by Galliker", the company is pursuing the goal of continuously reducing harmful effects on the environment and the consumption of nonrenewable resources in its logistics processes. This is reflected, among other things, in innovations in the vehicle fleet: by 2040, 50 percent of the vehicle fleet is to have an alternative drive, and by 2050 Galliker wants to be completely CO2-neutral. The company is also focusing on sustainability in the area of infrastructure. With very few exceptions, all Galliker buildings are equipped with large photovoltaic systems. The same applies to the new building in Aclens: the roof and south facade will be equipped with solar collectors. The existing Logistics Center 1 will also be fitted with a photovoltaic system on the roof as part of the expansion of the site. In the future, the site will produce around 2,000 MWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the demand of 425 single-family homes.
