All-electric and CO2-free on the road from the factory to the customer
The logistics company Galliker has been supporting Mercedes-Benz with the worldwide transportation of its new vehicles for over 20 years. Innovation and sustainable transport solutions have played a major role since the start of the collaboration. That is why an electric truck is now part of the fleet used by Galliker for the transportation of Mercedes-Benz luxury and luxury class vehicles. This truck can cover the approximately 270 km route up to three times a week.
Expansion of the e-truck fleet already being planned
Plans are already underway to expand the sustainable transport fleet with additional e-trucks. For example, two additional e-trucks are to be added to the fleet from 2025 and will be used on the route between the Mercedes-Benz plant in Rastatt and Zeebrugge in Belgium. This will result in CO2 savings of up to 1,650 tons per year on this approximately 600-kilometre route, taking into account the use of HVO vans on the route in addition to the fully electric transport vehicles. At several locations in Europe, Galliker operates its own charging stations with a capacity of up to 360 kW, most of which are powered by green electricity generated in-house, such as solar energy from photovoltaic systems. The charging time at the high-performance charging stations is around three hours for a range of 500 km.
"The good and close cooperation of all partners as well as the mutual trust in joint decisions and developments enable an innovative path towards alternative drives. We are therefore very grateful to be able to follow this path together with Mercedes-Benz as a long-standing customer."
Corinne Galliker, Head of Sales / Marketing & Member of the Executive Board, Galliker Transport AG
Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will reduce 60 percent of its CO2 emissions in logistics by 2039. At the beginning of 2024, Mercedes-Benz already electrified its transports between the nearby locations in Bad Cannstatt and Sindelfingen with e-trucks.
"The use of electric trucks on long-distance routes is a decisive step towards sustainable transport logistics and contributes to the achievement of Mercedes-Benz's strategic corporate goals. Road transportation is an integral part of our logistics strategy. We look forward to working with Galliker to make logistics more sustainable."
Elke Pusskeiler, Head of Supply Chain Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG
Sustainable long-distance transportation from the Mercedes-Benz plants to the world
Galliker and Mercedes-Benz are setting new standards with the first-ever use of electric trucks on a long-distance route from the Sindelfingen plant to Switzerland. The Sindelfingen plant currently produces the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, GLC, S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and the all-electric EQS. The vehicles produced are brought to the FLC Altishofen logistics center by the logistics service provider Galliker, from where they are transported to the Mercedes-Benz customer centers and branches in Switzerland.
